As long as I have been a member of the Elgin Amateur Radio Society, one of the gentlemen who you looked up to and could count upon as a friend and fellow amateur, Warren was the guy. He passed away today (Dec. 2, 2012) after a short battle with cancer. We will miss you Warren, and you will be fondly remembered by all who knew you. RIP
Doan, John “Warren” of St. Thomas, passed away on Sunday, December 2nd, 2012, at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, after a short illness, surrounded by his loving family. Dearly loved husband of 53 years and best friend of Mary Jane (Chambers) Doan. Much loved father of Jan Copeland (Jim) of Belmont, Joyce Maginn (Mike) of St. Thomas, Rob Doan (Melinda) of St. Thomas and Jon Doan (Barb) of Lethbridge, Alberta. Loved grandfather of Amanda, Nathan, Zachary, Kiera, Titus and Mallory. Predeceased by a sister Marion Helen Sinclair and by 2 brothers Maxwell “Max” Fonger Doan and Arthur “Bruce” Doan. Sadly missed by a number of nieces and nephews. Warren was born in Yarmouth Township on June 25th, 1935, the son of the late Hugo Felker and Alice Irene (Mitchell) Doan. He retired following a long career with the Elgin County Board of Education . Warren taught most of his career at Parkside Collegiate. He taught at Parkside from the time it opened in 1967 until his retirement in 1994. He was a ham radio operator and a member of the Elgin Amateur Radio Society.
The family will receive friends at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service to celebrate Warren’s life will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place, with private family interment of ashes in South Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to the London Regional Cancer Program, care of the London Health Sciences Foundation. Condolences may be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
